The Bronx

SINGLE REVIEW

It starts well - the sound of a snaking, insistent bass and pounding drums - and doesn't let up for 2 minutes. Recalling Queens of the Stone Age, early Foo Fighters or an uglier Hives with its poppy yet angry take on garage rock, "Shitty Future" practically stares you down and dares you to try and press the "skip" button. Meanwhile, vocalist Jason Caughthran screams into your speakers about, well, pretty much anything he feels like over a guitar line that shows the band are clearly having far too much fun. A constant feature in many of last years' "Best Album" polls for their self-titled sophomore album, The Bronx are well worth your time. It ain't big or clever, but it is dirty punk rock - which is basically much better.

4/5
